Before you record yourself...

  • Camera should be
    • stable
    • eye-level
    • horizontal (non-portrait)
    • composed with actor waist-up (medium-shot)
  • Light your face evenly (perhaps two light sources)
  • Sound should have clean sound--avoid household noises, pets, open windows, echoing rooms (consider external mic or earphones with mic)
  • Backgrounds should be neutral--unless the scene recommends a particular location that isn't hard to employ (kitchen, living room, etc)
  • Eye-lines should be just to right or left of lens
    • Put a reader near the mic, to beside the lens
