Detroit Unleaded

DETROIT UNLEADED

Congratulations to Rola Nashef for her recent screening of the film at the Seattle Film Festival in May and her acceptance for the San Fransisco Film Festival this October.

Rola is in development on her first feature film that draws characters and the inspiration from this short film. She plans on beginning production in the Spring of 2008.

"Detroit Unleaded" tells a story that explores the world of Detroit's Arab-owned gas stations by using elements of neorealism, comedy and fantasy to translate themes of culture, race and love.

The Story

Sami, a young Arab-American believes that his family's gas station will give him a chance to see his girl Naj, away from the pressures of their family and friends, while his cousin Mike is sure the station holds the key to an empire built on rolling papers and fake perfume. As his first night shift wears on, Sami finds that this place is more than just a pit stop for late-night gas, but a place where the uniqueness of this Detroit neighborhood becomes most visible.
