PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

Producing a film, large or small requires an understanding of how a film is organized and the legal aspects surrounding it. This course teaches the standard industry processes for organizing and managing film productions. Production Management places the most emphasis on the roles of the film producer, unit production manager, first and second assistant director, location manager, and coordinators.

Students learn the skills required to breakdown, schedule, and budget screenplays. These skills benefit students preparing to shoot their own film projects. Course instruction includes; an examination of production accounting and reporting practices, union agreements (SAG/IATSE), and location management.

EDIT LAB 3

Refining a image is a key component to the finishing process of filmmaking. This course teaches students to use the color corrrection tools to fine tune their images in AVID. In addition students are introduced to AVID FX (Boris Red) and how they can create motion titles and utilize basic compositing tools for green screen fx shots. Just as important as cutting is being able to manage where and how media clips are stored.

Students learn important file and project management skills, establishing their own program settings, using the media tool and solving common problems in AVID. There are a large variety and types of edit applications on the market. One of the most popular is Sony Vegas. This course also teaches students to use Sony Vegas 8.0. This is a widely used prosumer editing software with much of the same features as AVID. Students learn the Sony workspace configuration, capture, editing, file management and blu-ray DVD burning.

AUDIO POST

Students utilize their knowledge learned from AVID audio and apply it to a more advanced audio mixing program; Protools (by digidesign). This course teaches students Protools workspace configurations, media capture, edit preparation, syncing, mix downs to stems, channel mixing, EQing, and exporting.

Students create an audio project where they must strip away audio from a previous assignment and must re-record then recreate the audio from scratch. Instruction includes ADR (dialogue replacement), foley, fx, room tone, and music recording, sycning and mixing.
