About Us
For fourteen years, we have been the launching pad for many aspiring filmmakers who’ve gone to work on mega-budget movies like Avatar, directed by James Cameron, Batman: The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan or John Carter directed by Andrew Stanton. We’ve also helped our graduates produce their own work, such as the award-winning feature Detroit Unleaded, directed by MPI graduate Rola Nashef, the feature Nevermore, starring Judd Nelson & Vincent Spano and directed by MPI graduate Tom Zambeck. These graduates all began their careers by enrolling in the Motion Picture Production Program.
Our aim at MPI is to offer our students a training ground that stays current with technological advances. Our hands-on production curriculum continues to stress technique over theory while our creative curriculum challenges their imaginations. Most important, we give our students a supportive environment with personalized attention where they can explore their interests.
As the film industry goes, so MPI goes. In the next few years, as film gives way to digital imaging, workflows change and industry practices evolve, MPI will stay the course with them. We will continue to be the right place to start for aspiring filmmakers.
As a vocational/trade school licensed by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, MPI offers personalized training that few other film schools can.
Founded in 1995, MPI provides students with a hands-on film education concentrated in a one-year program.
With a total tuition cost of only $10,995 the Motion Picture Production Program is the most cost effective one-year film program in the country- and with new financing options, just about anyone can attend.
The Motion Picture Institute of Michigan was founded by filmmakers Douglas Schulze and Kurt Eli Mayry. It is privately held corporation owned by a group of Michigan shareholders and is overseen by a six-member board of directors.
MPI is also a member of the Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools (MACCS).
